Citizenship Through Naturalization in North Carolina

Statesville Citizenship Lawyer Helps Visa Holders Apply for Citizenship

As a lawful permanent resident of the United States, you can pursue citizenship through the process of naturalization. Naturalization is the process through which an individual gains United States citizenship.

Once all of the requirements have been fulfilled under the Immigration and Nationality Act , you can take the next step to apply for naturalization. You will need to complete the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services Form N-400 and send it along with the following documents:

  • Copy of your green card
  • Required photographs
  • Payment of the appropriate amount

Once you have filed your application, you will be called in for an interview appointment. Your knowledge of the English language, U.S history, and U.S. government will be assessed. If the interview is successful, you become a citizen and receive documents stating your naturalization.

Eligibility Requirements for Citizenship

You may be eligible for United States citizenship through naturalization if you fulfill a set of requirements. The residency requirement is that you must live in the United States as a lawful permanent resident for a minimum of five years and must be physically present in the United States for at least half that time. In addition, the following should apply to you:

  • You must also live in the state in which you are filing for a minimum of three months.
  • Your primary home must be within the United States and not another country.
  • The age requirement is that you must be at least 18 years old to apply.
  • You must be able to prove that you are of good moral character and demonstrate an ability to read, speak, and write in the English language.

Before you become a citizen, you will need to swear that you believe in the principles of the U.S. Constitution and will be loyal to this country. If you have any questions or need assistance through this process, do not hesitate to contact our firm today!
